Here, we outline barriers and opportunities in the next generation of fire science and provide guidance for investment in future research. We synthesize insights needed to better address the long-standing challenges of innovation across disciplines to (i) promote coordinated research efforts; (ii) embrace different ways of knowing and knowledge generation; (iii) promote exploration of fundamental science; (iv) capitalize on the “firehose” of data for societal benefit; and (v) integrate human and natural systems into models across multiple scales.
Congrats to Alison Deak!
Alison successfully defended her M.S. last week and then started her dream job in CA (see previous post). We’ll miss her!
First two videos from our AK Reburns project have been released!
The first two videos from our AK Reburns project have been released. They are paired with middle/high school curriculum and will be distributed (when the final two videos are completed) free to teachers. Grab your popcorn and watch these two videos, only four min each:
Tom got a new job as a Data Analyst!
Tom Brussel, PD, will be leaving our lab in June of 2022 to take a permanent, full-time job as a Data Analyst for Driven Brands. We will definitely miss his upbeat attitude in our lab, but we wish him the best!
Alison got her dream job!
Alison Deak got a new job which she will start in mid-August 2022 after she defends her M.S. in late July. Her new position will be as a Fire Advisor in Applied Research and Extension- perfect blend of research and extension work on fire. We’re so proud of you.
Stuart officially graduated today!
Stuart Steidle finished his M.S. today! Please call him Master Stuart going forward.
Shelby advanced to Candidacy!
Congrats to Shelby who is now officially a PhD Candidate! We’re excited for her to finish up her dissertation this summer/fall and move onto her next great adventure.
